Number Range Violation
Q-1-15 — Number Range Violation
A numeric value is outside the allowed range or is not a valid multiple of the required step.
What this means
A schema can require that a numeric property fall inside a range (an inclusive or exclusive minimum and maximum) or be a multiple of a specific step. This error fires when the number you provided does not meet that constraint.
The terminal message reports the bound that was violated. For range violations it reads “less than minimum N”, “greater than maximum N”, “not greater than N” (exclusive minimum), or “not less than N” (exclusive maximum). For multiple-of violations it reads “not a multiple of N”.
Why this happens
Common causes:
- Off-by-one mistakes near an inclusive vs exclusive bound, for
example providing
0to a property that requires “greater than zero”. - Mistaking units. Pixels supplied where percentages were expected, milliseconds where seconds were expected, or fractions where integers were expected.
- Multiple-of constraints on values that look natural but are not, such as page-size fractions that must align with a grid.
How to fix
Inspect the bound named in the error message. If the value is
close to a boundary, check whether the boundary is inclusive
(minimum/maximum) or exclusive (exclusiveMinimum/
exclusiveMaximum).
If the violation is a multiple-of constraint, round the value to the nearest multiple. If that loses information your configuration depended on, the property is the wrong place for what you are trying to express.
