Invalid diagnostics: entry
diagnostics: could not be understood, so it suppresses nothing.
Q-5-27 — Invalid diagnostics: entry
An entry under
diagnostics:was not in a recognized form. It has no effect: the diagnostic it names is still reported.
What this means
The diagnostics: key maps an error code to what Quarto should do with
it. Each entry takes one of two forms:
diagnostics:
Q-2-49: off # short form
Q-2-45: # long form, with a reason
level: off
reason: "legacy corpus, migrating incrementally"off is the only level Quarto currently supports.
This warning fires when an entry does not match either form — a
misspelled level, a long-form entry with no level: key, or a
diagnostics: value that is not a map. Quarto reports it rather than
ignoring it because there is no schema layer to catch the mistake for
you: an entry that is silently dropped would look exactly like a
suppression that failed to work.
How to fix
Check the entry against the two forms above. In particular:
diagnostics:
Q-2-49: error # not supported — `off` is the only level
Q-2-49: # long form missing `level:`
reason: "..."
diagnostics: # must be a map, not a list
- Q-2-49Writing a reason: is optional but worth the line — it is what makes
the suppression reviewable later, when whoever reads the file next has
to decide whether it still applies.
Notes
Two limits are worth knowing when a suppression appears not to work:
- Errors are never suppressed, only warnings and informational diagnostics. Silencing an error would ship broken output with no signal at all.
- Only diagnostics that carry a code can be suppressed. Some Quarto warnings do not yet have one.
