The typst binary could not be found on PATH, and QUARTO_TYPST is not set.

What this means

Typst output is produced by rendering to Pandoc’s own Typst writer and then compiling the result to PDF with a real typst binary. Quarto looked for typst on PATH and did not find it, and no QUARTO_TYPST environment variable pointed at an explicit location.

Why this happens

  • Typst is not installed on this machine.
  • Typst is installed but not on the shell’s PATH.
  • QUARTO_TYPST is set to a path that does not exist.

How to fix

Install typst from typst.app, or — if it is already installed somewhere not on PATH — set the QUARTO_TYPST environment variable to the full path of the typst binary.
