Q-0-1 — Internal Error

An error condition that points at a bug in Quarto itself.

What this means

Q-0-1 is the catalog’s sentinel for errors that should not occur during normal operation. The condition was reached by a code path Quarto did not expect to reach — an invariant violated, a defensive unreachable! taken, a state machine that landed in an unexpected branch.

If you are seeing it, you have most likely found a bug.

Why this happens

The trigger varies — by definition, Q-0-1 is what Quarto emits when it does not have a more specific code that fits. The accompanying message names the immediate condition; the context (the document, the configuration, the command line) is what reproduces it.

How to fix

Report the failure at the Quarto issue tracker. The most useful report includes:

  • The Quarto version (quarto --version).
  • The command you ran.
  • The full error output.
  • A minimal reproducer, if you can construct one.

If the error blocks work you need to ship, you may be able to find a workaround by changing the input that triggers it (a different output format, a different configuration option). The workaround does not fix the underlying problem but can unblock you while the bug is investigated.
