Callout Has No Registered Crossref Category
Q-20-6 — Callout Has No Registered Crossref Category
A callout’s identifier prefix is a recognized cross-reference type, but not one registered for callout/figure-style numbering.
What this means
A callout’s identifier (e.g. #thm-x) starts with a prefix Quarto
recognizes as a cross-reference type in general, but that prefix is not one
of the categories registered for callout/figure-style numbering
specifically. Quarto 1 would abort the whole render in this situation; the
pandoc-leg shim instead renders the callout without a number, so the
document still builds. Any @ref to that callout will not resolve to a
number, since none was assigned.
Why this happens
- The identifier prefix belongs to another cross-reference family (for
example a theorem-environment prefix like
thm-,lem-,cor-) that was used on a callout by mistake. - A custom or extension-registered cross-reference prefix was applied to a callout without also registering it for callout-style numbering.
How to fix
Give the callout an identifier prefix that is registered for numbering
(for example note-, tip-, warning-, important-, caution-), or
remove the numeric-looking prefix entirely if the callout was never meant
to be numbered.
