Q-9-6 — Multiple XML Root Elements
The XML document contains more than one top-level element.
What this means
A well-formed XML document has exactly one root element. This error fires when the parser, after finishing the first top-level element, finds another element at the document’s top level instead of end-of-input.
Why this happens
Common causes:
- Two documents concatenated without a wrapping root.
- A stray closing tag that prematurely ended the intended root, leaving the rest of the content at top level.
- Hand-edited XML where a wrapping element was deleted by mistake.
How to fix
Wrap the top-level elements in a single container, or remove the spurious element if it does not belong. The message names the location where the second root element starts — that is where to look.
