Unrecognized Custom Node Type
Q-20-5 — Unrecognized Custom Node Type
The pandoc-leg wire-format shim received a custom node type it does not recognize.
What this means
Quarto’s docx/pptx output goes through a Lua shim that translates Quarto’s internal “custom node” representation (theorems, callouts, cross-references, and similar) into real pandoc AST nodes that pandoc’s own Lua filters know how to render. The shim received a custom node type its own vendored filter tree has no entry for. Rather than failing the whole render, it dropped the node’s wrapper and passed its content through unchanged, without whatever special formatting that type would normally get.
Why this happens
- The version of Quarto that produced the document is newer than the vendored pandoc filter tree the shim ships with, and introduced a new custom node type in between.
- A third-party extension or filter produced a custom node type Quarto’s own writer never emits.
How to fix
Upgrade Quarto to a version whose pandoc-leg shim recognizes the type. If the type comes from a third-party extension, check whether that extension supports docx/pptx output at all.
