What this means
Several markdown dialects accept ***text*** as a shorthand for
emphasis nested inside strong (or vice versa). Quarto markdown
does not. The error fires when an opener of three consecutive
asterisks appears.
Why this happens
Most often the syntax is carried over from another markdown dialect (CommonMark, GFM, Pandoc) where it is supported.
How to fix
Nest the emphases explicitly. Either of these works:
*__bold italic__*
**_bold italic_**The two forms produce the same output; the choice is stylistic.
