Q-19-1 — Plot Document Not Found
The hephaestus plot document (
.hep) an image refers to could not be read.
What this means
An image in the document points at a hephaestus plot document — a
file ending in .hep — and Quarto could not read that file. Quarto
renders .hep files to SVG at render time so every HTML page shows
the plot; when the file cannot be read there is nothing to render, so
the image is left exactly as written and the rest of the page still
renders. The browser then shows a broken image where the plot should
be.
The message names the path as written and the location it resolved to.
Why this happens
Common causes:
- The path is wrong. A relative path is resolved against the
directory of the document that contains the image, not the
project root. A path starting with
/is resolved against the project root. - The file was never written. A code cell that was expected to
produce the plot did not run, failed, or wrote the file somewhere
else (for example under a different
fig-path). - The file is not readable because of permissions, or it was deleted or renamed after the reference was written.
How to fix
Check the resolved location the message reports against where the file actually is, then fix the path or move the file. For a plot produced by a code cell, look for an earlier error from that cell.
