Q-5-16 — resources: Pattern Matched No Files

A resources: glob matched no files, so nothing was published for it.

What this means

Each resources: entry names files to copy into the output directory alongside the rendered site. This warning fires when a glob entry matched nothing at all — the rest of the resource list is unaffected, so the render continues without whatever that pattern was meant to publish.

Only glob entries produce this warning. A literal path that does not exist is reported by name instead (see Q-5-6), which is the more useful message when there is a single file to point at.

Why this happens

The most common cause is a pattern written for Quarto 1. In Quarto 2, * matches within one directory level:

resources:
  - "data/*.csv" # CSVs directly in data/
  - "data/**/*.csv" # CSVs anywhere under data/
  - data # everything under data/

Other causes:

  • A typo in a directory or file name.
  • The pattern resolves against a different directory than you expect. A resources: entry resolves relative to the file it is written in: document front matter → that document’s directory, _metadata.yml → that file’s directory, _quarto.yml → the project root. A leading / always anchors at the project root.

How to fix

Check the pattern against the project layout, and add **/ if you meant to search subdirectories. To publish a whole directory, name it:

resources:
  - data
