Q-14-5 — Unknown Highlight Style
The
highlight-style:value does not name a syntax-highlight palette shipped with Quarto; the default palette is used instead.
What this means
The highlight-style: option selects the color palette used for
syntax highlighting in code blocks. The configured name is not one
of the palettes shipped with Quarto, so the document renders with
the default palette. This is a warning, not an error — the render
completes.
Why this happens
Common causes:
- A typo in the style name. The warning lists every available palette; check the configured name against that list.
- A custom
.themefile path. Quarto 1 accepts a path to a user-supplied.themefile here; Quarto 2 does not support that yet — only the shipped catalog names.
Quarto ships the full Quarto 1 palette catalog: the adaptive names
a11y, arrow, atom-one, ayu, breeze, github, gruvbox,
and monochrome (each resolves to its -light / -dark variant
per theme, and the explicit forms are accepted too), the
single-variant palettes ayu-mirage, breezedark, dracula,
espresso, haddock, kate, monokai, nord, oblivion,
printing, pygments, radical, solarized, tango,
vim-dark, and zenburn, plus Quarto’s own default and none.
How to fix
Pick one of the available palettes, or remove highlight-style:
to use the default. An adaptive name pairs naturally with a
light/dark theme configuration:

dark: darkly
