Q-7-5 — Inputs Span Multiple Projects

Input paths belong to more than one Quarto project; render one project at a time.

What this means

When you pass multiple input paths, Quarto resolves each one to its enclosing project (the nearest ancestor directory with a _quarto.yml). All inputs must resolve to the same project — a render run carries one project’s configuration, build options, output directory, and so on. This error fires when at least two of the paths land in different projects.

Why this happens

Common causes:

  • A glob expansion that crossed a project boundary.
  • A script collecting files from multiple sibling directories, each of which is its own Quarto project.

How to fix

Render each project separately. If the files truly belong together, restructure so they live under a single _quarto.yml.
