Q-24-14 — Unmatched Comment Markers

Some Word comment markers had no matching start or end. A start without an end became a point comment; an end without a start was removed.

What this means

Word marks each comment’s range with a start and an end. These did not pair up (for example the file was saved with a comment’s range partly deleted), so the importer kept a start as a point comment and dropped a stray end.

Why this happens

  • The comment’s range was deleted in Word but the comment was kept.
  • The file was produced by a tool that writes incomplete comment markers.

How to fix

Nothing needs fixing; the comment text is kept where possible.
