Q-3-55 — NoteDefinitionFencedBlock Not Supported in ANSI Format

Fenced note definitions cannot be rendered in ANSI terminal output.

What this means

A fenced note definition is the multi-paragraph form of a footnote — the body lives inside a fenced block attached to the note reference. The ANSI writer (used when rendering to a terminal) does not render footnotes at all, regardless of form.

Why this happens

Your document uses the fenced form of a note definition and you rendered to ANSI output.

How to fix

Render to a different format. HTML, PDF, and the markdown writers all handle fenced footnotes. If the body is short enough, you can also rewrite it as a one-line inline footnote (text^[body]).
