Q-2-17 — Unclosed Subscript

A ~subscript~ run opens with ~ but no closing ~ appears before the end of the block.

What this means

Tilde-delimited subscript (~text~) must be balanced inside the same block. This error fires when an opening ~ appears without a matching close.

Why this happens

A typo, or a literal ~ (a home-directory shorthand, for instance) read as a subscript opener.

How to fix

Add the closing ~. For literal tildes in prose, escape:

The home directory \~/work/.

Example
