Q-21-3 — Typst Compile Failed

The typst compile subprocess exited with a nonzero status. Its stderr is reproduced verbatim below, including typst’s own diagnostic (file/line, if any).

What this means

Pandoc successfully wrote a .typ file, but the subsequent typst compile step failed to turn it into a PDF.

Why this happens

  • A construct in the document produces Typst source typst’s compiler rejects (a malformed raw Typst block, an unsupported property value).
  • A referenced image file is missing or not decodable by typst.
  • A referenced Typst package (beyond the ones Quarto vendors) could not be resolved.

How to fix

Read typst’s own error message, reproduced verbatim in the diagnostic — it names the offending file and line inside the intermediate .typ source. Setting keep-typ: true retains that intermediate file so it can be inspected directly.
