Unclosed Emphasis

markdown
An emphasis run (typically underscore-delimited) opens without a matching close before the end of the block.

Q-2-5 — Unclosed Emphasis

A _emphasized_ run opens with _ but no closing _ appears before the end of the block.

What this means

Underscore-delimited emphasis (_text_) must be balanced inside the same block. This error fires when an opening _ appears without a matching close before the block ends.

Why this happens

Most often a typo: a closing underscore was forgotten, or a literal underscore in identifier-style text (some_value) was read as an emphasis opener.

How to fix

Add the closing _ at the intended end, or — if the underscore is part of an identifier — escape it as \_ so the parser treats it as a literal character:

The variable `some_value` (no emphasis intended) or some\_value.

Example

Unfinished _emph.
