Q-21-4 — Brand Font Not Available To Typst

A brand.typography.fonts entry could not be made available to Typst, so Typst falls back to another font for that family.

What this means

Typst only uses fonts that exist as files on disk. For a brand font with source: google, Quarto downloads the font files when it renders to Typst and caches them under .quarto/typst/fonts in the project directory. This warning means that download did not produce a usable font. The render still completes, using a fallback font.

Why this happens

  • The machine is offline, or fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com could not be reached.
  • The family name is misspelled, so Google Fonts returned no font files for it.
  • Google Fonts offered the family only as woff/woff2, which Typst cannot load. Typst needs TrueType or OpenType files.
  • The font uses source: bunny, which Typst output does not support.

How to fix

Check the network connection and the spelling of the family. Fonts that downloaded once are cached and are not fetched again, so a later offline render can still use them.

To avoid depending on the network, or to use a font Google does not serve as TrueType/OpenType, supply the files yourself with source: file in typography.fonts, or list their directory under font-paths.
